How Jet Wag Works
-
No. Jet Wag is not an airline, and we don’t operate scheduled flights that we’re looking to fill. Every Jet Wag group starts with traveler interest. You tell us where you’d like to go and when, and we look for other travelers with compatible plans. Once there’s enough interest, we begin forming a group. A flight is confirmed once enough reservations are secured and the aircraft is confirmed.
-
A shared group flight is a private jet charter split among a group of travelers and their pets. Instead of one traveler covering the cost of the entire aircraft, each member of the group secures space. This makes private travel more accessible while allowing pets to travel comfortably in the cabin with their people.
-
Not yet. Submitting your interest is the first step, but it doesn’t mean a space is being held or that a flight is confirmed. A flight is only confirmed once the group has enough secured reservations and we’ve confirmed the aircraft. We always want to be transparent about this so you can plan accordingly.
Interest List & New Destinations
-
No. Submitting your travel details is completely free and doesn’t commit you to anything.
-
We’ll track your travel plans for that route and travel window and compare them with other compatible inquiries. There’s nothing else you need to do while you’re on the interest list.
If we see enough compatible interest to begin forming a shared group, we’ll contact you with the proposed details, estimated pricing, and next steps for securing your space.
Being on the interest list doesn’t mean you’re confirmed or that a space is being held for you.
-
Yes! Traveler inquiries are how new Jet Wag routes begin. Tell us where you’d like to go and when, and we’ll track your travel plans alongside other inquiries we receive.
-
When we begin seeing compatible interest for a new destination, we can start exploring a potential group and contact travelers who have expressed interest in that route. If enough travelers are ready to move forward, we begin forming the group just as we would for one of our more established routes.
New destinations can take more time to come together, so the earlier you submit your travel plans, the better.
Timing, Reservations & Confirmation
-
First, we collect interest from travelers with compatible routes and travel dates. Once there’s enough interest to begin forming a group, we’ll contact you with the proposed details and estimated pricing.
Travelers who choose to move forward sign the service agreement and submit the required deposit to secure their space. Once enough reservations are secured, we confirm the aircraft and the flight.
-
We make our final determination three weeks prior to the estimated departure date, or sooner if the group reaches capacity first. At that point, we’ll let everyone who has secured space know where the group stands.
-
If the group is close but still has open space, we’ll contact everyone who has secured a reservation with an update and the estimated pricing to move forward at the group’s current size.
Each member can choose whether to move forward at that rate or opt out and receive a full refund of their deposit. If everyone agrees to proceed, the group and flight are confirmed at that rate.
-
There’s no such thing as too early. Successful groups often develop over several months, so submitting your travel plans early gives us more time to identify compatible travelers and gives you more time to prepare.
-
It depends on the route and how quickly compatible interest develops. Groups requested within about 30 days of travel can be difficult to form, but you’re still welcome to submit your travel plans in case they align with a group already in progress.
Pricing & Cabin Space
-
Pricing varies based on the route, aircraft, number of confirmed travelers, time of year, aircraft availability, and the amount of cabin space your travel party requires.
Once a group begins forming, we’ll share estimated pricing before you decide whether to secure your space.
-
Charter pricing depends heavily on the aircraft and flight time. Longer routes generally require larger aircraft with higher operating costs, while shorter routes may be possible with smaller aircraft and smaller groups.
Group size, aircraft availability, seasonality, and the cabin space required by each travel party can also affect pricing.
-
It can. Pricing is based in part on the amount of cabin space your travel party occupies. Larger pets or multiple pets may require additional space so the cabin remains comfortable and pets can maintain appropriate separation from one another.
When you submit your travel details, we’ll review your party size, number of pets, and their approximate weights and let you know how much space would be needed before you reserve.
Refunds
-
If you decide to opt out before the group reaches capacity or before the three-week mark, whichever comes first, you’ll receive a refund of your deposit less the $150 service fee.
-
Once the group and aircraft are confirmed, refunds are no longer issued. At that point, the aircraft has been booked on behalf of the group.
-
If we aren’t able to form the group, you’ll receive a full refund of your deposit. In some cases, we may also offer the option to transfer your reservation and secured pricing to a later group if that timing works better for your plans.
Traveling to & from Hawaii
-
Yes. We track shared group interest between Hawaii and the mainland. Submit your preferred route, travel dates, party size, and pet information, and we’ll contact you if enough compatible interest develops to begin forming a group.
-
We can track interest for direct groups to and from the neighbor islands. When a direct group isn’t available, some trips may also be able to connect through Honolulu.
Depending on your pet and travel plans, the connection could involve commercial in-cabin travel or a separately priced private charter between Honolulu and your neighbor island. We’ll discuss available options with you before you decide whether you’d like to move forward.
-
No. We can track your interest in a direct flight to or from Kona, Maui, or Kauai. However, direct groups depend on enough travelers having compatible routes and timing. Being open to a Honolulu connection may provide additional options when a direct group isn’t available.
-
Yes. Jet Wag offers pet travel documentation assistance as a separate service to help you navigate Hawaii’s entry requirements and prepare the required paperwork for your pet.
We can begin many of the required steps before your group flight is confirmed. Some time-sensitive requirements, including the health certificate, are completed closer to your confirmed travel date.
-
If Honolulu is your first point of entry into Hawaii, your pet completes the applicable Hawaii arrival process in Honolulu before continuing to a neighbor island.
This differs from flying directly into Kona, Maui, or Kauai, which requires advance arrangements for direct release at the neighbor-island airport.
-
Yes. Our pet travel documentation service can be used separately from a Jet Wag shared group flight.
If your travel plans change or your Jet Wag group doesn’t form, much of the documentation work you’ve already completed will still be usable depending on your new travel date and itinerary.
Round Trips
-
No. You’re welcome to join a group in just one direction.
-
You can express interest in both directions, but each direction depends on its own group coming together. That means your outbound flight could form even if a compatible return group does not.
If you’re planning round-trip travel, we recommend having a backup option in case one direction doesn’t form.
-
When we form a shared charter group, we typically need travelers for both directions of the aircraft’s trip. For example, a Los Angeles-to-Honolulu group may be paired with a Honolulu-to-Los Angeles group departing about a day later.
This means a successful trip generally depends on enough travelers securing space in both directions, not just on your individual flight filling.
-
Typically, no. The paired flights usually operate about a day apart, so the return flight happens too soon to serve as a traditional round trip.
If you need round-trip travel, we can track your preferred return date separately, but that return would depend on another compatible group forming for that travel window.
Airports
-
Very rarely. We use the Los Angeles area as a convenient hub, but Jet Wag groups are more likely to operate from private airports such as Van Nuys Airport (VNY) or Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR).
-
No. We can explore groups from San Diego, Orange County, and other airports depending on the route and traveler interest. Tell us where you’d like to depart from when you submit your travel details.
-
Jet Wag flights typically depart from private aviation terminals rather than the main commercial airport terminals. This means a quieter, simpler experience without the usual commercial airline check-in lines, crowded terminals, or standard TSA screening process.
The exact departure and arrival location varies by flight. Even if you know the airport, don’t rely on the airport’s general address, Jet Wag will provide the specific private terminal address and arrival instructions for your group before departure.
The same applies when you land. Pickup is typically arranged directly from the private aviation facility rather than the airport’s main baggage claim or passenger pickup area, making arrivals and departures much easier when traveling with pets and luggage.
Private Charters & Empty Legs
-
Yes. We can also help arrange private charters for travelers who don’t want to wait for a shared group to form.
Private charter pricing is based on the aircraft and total trip required to operate your flight, including any necessary repositioning, so one-way travel can still involve costs beyond the passenger flight itself.
-
We can help with empty-leg opportunities as well. An empty leg is a flight an aircraft needs to operate without booked passengers, which can sometimes provide attractive pricing for travelers with significant flexibility.
Empty legs are generally available much closer to departure and can change, so they’re best suited to travelers who can be flexible with their dates and plans.
If you’re interested, let us know and we can track your preferred route.
Traveling With Pets
-
Yes. Your pet stays in the cabin with you throughout the flight.
-
For dogs, crates and carriers are generally not required on our shared group flights. Your dog must remain under your control throughout the flight and may ride at your feet or on your lap. Depending on the space your party has secured and the aircraft configuration, other arrangements may also be possible.
-
Yes. The number and size of your pets help determine how much cabin space your travel party will require. Include each pet’s type, approximate weight, and other requested details when submitting your travel plans so we can plan appropriately.
-
Yes. Cats are welcome and need to travel in an appropriate carrier.
-
We can accommodate many types of pets, including birds, rabbits, and other companion animals. Requirements may vary depending on the animal, aircraft, and air carrier, so we’ll review your pet’s details before confirming travel arrangements.
-
You’re responsible for your pet throughout the flight, including keeping them safely under your control and being responsible for any damage they may cause. We also ask that dogs have an opportunity to relieve themselves before boarding.
International Travel
-
Yes. We’re open to forming shared groups for international travel. Tell us where you’d like to go when submitting your travel plans, and we’ll track interest for that route.
International travel can involve additional entry and documentation requirements for pets, which vary by destination, so we recommend reaching out as early as possible.
